Happiness And Suffering: Experiences And Thoughts

Table of Contents

Happiness and suffering sometimes go hand-in-hand as there are also scenarios in our life where you will first feel suffering before actually feeling happiness or vice versa. This article will give you a glimpse of happiness and suffering, which can also be related to depression, and many more. Happiness and suffering are not like those versus ideas such as those in, as what was said, they can both happen simultaneously.

Explanation Of Happiness

Having a reference for happiness is not a bad thing, there are sometimes explanations on why a person is happy and this section might explain why you’re feeling happy, so if you’re curious then this is a good read.

Happiness is always this light feeling, being in a really good mood or in a state of life where you don’t think of anything because you’re satisfied with what you have achieved. Many people have their thoughts when it comes to being happy or even achieving happiness. Plato believes that happiness is more on values and controlling your own life, while Aristotle’s belief is more on achieving your goals in life, Epicurus’ definition of happiness is living without fear or even a hint of discomfort, and lastly, St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas said that being one with God is the real meaning of happiness. All of them have only one important meaning and it is achieving something, may it be on values, goals, a world without fear, and oneness with God. We are all happy if we achieve something but won’t settle there, we create new things to achieve and there are endless possibilities to be happy. There are no limits to being happy, whether you achieve the smallest thing or a bigger one, happiness is happiness and there are many things to define that. I have learned that no one can define your happiness except yourself, whether you believe in other philosophers, they cannot exactly determine what will make you happy. I still don’t know what makes me happy. Maybe, I should focus more on my studies and myself first because, at the right time, I might determine it without realizing that I am completely happy.

Explanation For Suffering And Depression

These two are sadly related and are painful to experience and sometimes people get tired of being so sad that they want to end it easily which is painful for the loved ones that will be left behind. This section will explain the feeling of suffering and depression and also studies and philosophies that entails with this feeling so that you can assess yourself so that you can have a reference when you want to seek professional help.

Suffering can be associated with extreme sadness and agony. It can also be a result of conflict between the expected outcome of something and failing to reach it. Weltschmerz, angst, and ennui are some of the philosophical views on suffering. Weltschmerz is the state of believing that the world is perfect and the resulting is an extreme disappointment, Angst is the questioning of one’s life, especially in terms of having a purpose and a reason to continue living, and lastly, Ennui is the lack of excitement in life and resulting to this is loss of interest and boredom. Schopenhauer focused on the external factors that may cause people suffering which can also be related to Nietzsche’s view on the inevitability of suffering. Seller combined those two and formed a thought that all of those happenings have a real meaning and are all associated with one another. This statement of Sefler became a bridge for the thoughts of Irenaeus of Lyons and Origen of Alexandria. Irenaeus emphasized that suffering is the price for having free will and it is necessary for protecting our morality, while Origen stated that it can be a lesson for us to build our souls and result in healing our role as a person in this world. All of these can be accepted as true and can cite many examples that can be depicted in our daily lives. I have learned that there are many forms of suffering and you will determine how to cope with that suffering and use it to enrich what you have. Maybe I should prepare myself for those challenges that will arrive soon and I should always think positively because some of those suffering might be a good lesson and might show me the true meaning of life.

Poor mental health is the most serious public health problem in large countries, and it is the second most significant contributor to years lived with disabilities (DLL) in the world. Depression is a significant component of this public health problem, with a lifetime prevalence of approximately 17-18 percent in the world. It is the third leading cause of disease burden worldwide, and the first in middle- and high-income countries. It is the leading cause of disability-adjusted life years among young people aged 10 to 24 in the world, according to the WHO. Poor mental health in teenagers and adults, particularly depression and anxiety, is associated with an increased risk of developing other types of poor mental health, as well as substance abuse, suicide, and unemployment. Depression is also linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and obesity. Depression is also a costly disease for society, but perhaps more importantly, it has negative consequences for those who are affected by it, including both individuals and families whether they are teenagers or adults.

Depression is a significant public health problem that hurts numerous aspects of life. It is the leading cause of years lived with a disability among teenagers and adults. Many different factors can be considered as major factors in its development, including biology, physical disease, gender, as well as psychosocial and socioeconomic factors. Depression is more common in women than in men; however, it is a significant public health problem that affects both men and women, despite the fact that men receive less attention than women.  However, the field is impacted by the use of different definitions and measurements, such as the omnibus measure of “psychological distress,” as well as little focus on specific mental disorders, age, and, especially in social democracies. The overall goal of this study was to build on prior findings and increase knowledge about depression in adolescents and adults, as well as the differences in treatment between the two groups.

Several studies have found that people with low social status are at greater risk of having poor mental health, though the opposite has also been discovered in some cases. It has also been observed that poor mental health among teenagers and adults has increased as a result of socioeconomic inequality. The diversity of the factors used to define social role, illness severity, and depression classifications (including chronic depression and inner depression, as well as differential adjustment for possible confounders, make it difficult to gain a thorough understanding of the subject matter. There is little information available about the social differences that exist between teenagers and adults with depression nor about people’s experiences with the disease and seeking help about the influence of time of life on these topics.
